Responsibilities

Community and Family Resources is seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner to serve our clients at our Iowa City locations!

The Nurse Practitioner in this role is responsible for the delivery of high-quality treatment and diagnostic services. The person in this position will provide services to clients in various levels of care throughout our agency. The nurse practitioner works with staff to provide outpatient psychiatric care including identification, diagnosis, treatment, medication management, and crisis intervention services within the scope of practice of a licensed nurse practitioner. They will also provide assessments, physicals, and diagnoses for clients in our adult residential substance use treatment program. They will be responsible for prescribing patients with appropriate medication, health regimens, and lifestyle adjustments that will contribute to their recovery from diagnosed health issues, prevent future health issues, and/or promote a healthier life.

  • Provides outpatient psychiatric care for patients of the agency in conjunction with the agency’s missions.
  • Provides patient with initial intakes for diagnosis and treatment plan.
  • Consults with the medical director/psychiatrist or on-call psychiatrist as needed.
  • Acts as a patient advocate, monitoring progress and appropriateness of services provided.
  • Prescribes medication to patients and monitors for efficacy and side effects.
  • Participates as a team member in the provision of psychiatric/mental health care through interaction with professional colleagues to provide comprehensive care.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of a strategic plan for the delivery of mental health services in agency’s service area.
  • Work with the primary healthcare team to provide patients with primary medical care services within the established standards of care.
  • Analyzes reports, test results, medical records and examinations to diagnose condition of patients and propose treatment options.
  • Provide advice to patients for lifestyle and diet changes that may improve their health or help to treat the health issue they are experiencing.

  • Order laboratory and radiology tests and refer patients to specialists when appropriate.

Education and Experience Qualifications:

  • Currently registered for licensure as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner.
  • Requires ARNP certified in Psychiatry.
  • Experience providing Medication Assisted Treatment services preferred.
